Apple wants to scale production in India

The Indian Minister of Commerce said that Apple wants to manufacture 25 percent of its iPhones in India.

The Indian Minister of Commerce said on Monday that Apple plans to manufacture 25 percent of all its iPhones in India.

“[Apple] already realizes about 5-7 percent of their production in India. If I’m not mistaken, they aim to go up to 25 percent of their production,” said Piyush Goyal, India’s Minister of Trade and Industry.

An Apple spokesperson declined to comment.

Last year, Apple started assembling the flagship iPhone 14 in India. For the first time, the Cupertino, California-based tech giant has produced its latest model in India so close to its launch. Apple has been producing iPhones in India since 2017, but these were mostly older models.

JPMorgan analysts said in a September note that Apple could manufacture 25 percent of all iPhones worldwide in India by 2025.
