According to a new argument spreading in the technology backdrop, Apple is working on a new chip that will strengthen cellular, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth contacts in its devices and bring them all under one roof. Apple currently buys the chips it uses for these works from Broadcom, but it is stated that it wants to switch to its own chips with the prestige of 2025.
According to the allegations, Apple plans to manufacture its own cellular modems and stop buying modems from Qualcomm. Apple will switch to its own modems by the end of 2024 and 2025. In three years, it will start to use its own modems in all its devices.
If Apple puts these chips into production, there will be more additions to their growing number of custom chips, which essentially include things like the A-series system-on-chip series. The company bought the “majority” of Intel’s smartphone modem business in 2019, and Nikkei reported in 2021 that Apple wants to use its own 5G modem from 2023. However, Qualcomm’s latest comments show that Apple will not switch until 2024 at the earliest.
It’s unclear when a combined cellular, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth chip might be included in an iPhone. We may still have a ways to go, given that we can still wait for a respite for the on-premises cellular modem to arrive.
