Automotive closed 2022 with an increase in both production and sales

According to the Automotive Industry Association (OSD) information, total automotive production in 2022 increased by 6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 1 million 352 thousand 648 units. Car production increased by 4 percent to 810 thousand 889 units.

Accordingly, total automotive production in 2022 increased by 6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 1 million 352 thousand 648 units. Car production increased by 4 percent to 810 thousand 889 units. Together with the tractor production, the total production reached 1 million 402 thousand 189 units.

In 2022, commercial vehicle production increased by 10 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. In this period, production increased by 26 percent in the heavy commercial vehicle cluster and 8 percent in the light commercial vehicle cluster.

Last year, the capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry was 70 percent. On the basis of vehicle cluster, capacity utilization rates were 70 percent in light vehicles (car + light commercial vehicle), 92 percent in truck cluster, 41 percent in bus-midibus cluster and 66 percent in tractor.

Exports increased by 6 percent compared to 2021 and reached 31.5 billion dollars.

In the said period, automotive exports increased by 4 percent on the basis of units compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 970 thousand 124 units. In this period, car exports increased by 1 percent and commercial vehicle exports by 7 percent compared to the previous year. Tractor exports, on the other hand, increased by 7 percent compared to 2021 and reached 18 thousand 154 units.

According to the information of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), the total automotive industry exports ranked second in the sectoral export ranking with a share of 12.2% in 2022. According to Uludag Exporters’ Association (UIB) data, total automotive exports increased by 6 percent compared to 2021 and reached 31.5 billion dollars last year. In euro terms, it increased by 18 percent to 29.9 billion euros. In this period, exports of the main industry increased by 4 percent and the exports of the supply industry increased by 9 percent in dollar terms.

Total market increased by 7 percent

Last year, the total market increased by 7 percent compared to 2021 and amounted to 827 thousand 147 units. In this period, the car market increased by 6 percent to 592 thousand 660 units.

Compared to the previous year, there was a growth of 11 percent in the total commercial vehicle market, 24 percent in the heavy commercial vehicle market and 9 percent in the light commercial vehicle market.

In 2022, compared to the previous year, sales of imported light commercial vehicles increased by 1 percent and domestic light commercial vehicles increased by 15 percent. In this period, the share of domestic vehicles in car sales was 39 percent, and the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was 59 percent.
