The Electronic Entertainment Expo game fair, known as E3, has been going through some hectic times over the past few years. In particular, the COVID-19 pandemic hit E3, like all major trade shows. But those tough times may not be over now, at least for E3.
It seems that the major game console manufacturers will not show up at the E3 of 2023. According to a report from IGN citing anonymous sources, at E3 2023, which will be held June 13-16 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo will not be involved.
So far, none of the game console companies have confirmed or denied this claim. If true, this would be a huge loss for E3 2023.
E3 2023 will be the first face-to-face E3 since 2019. 2020 was canceled entirely due to the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic. E3 2021 was organized as a completely virtual event, and E3 2022 was canceled as well.
Entertainment Software Association (ESA)organizer of E3 who took over the management of the trade show to his name ReedPop In his statement, he only said that the invitations were sent at the beginning of January 2023 and that they received great attention from many high-end game companies. However, Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo were not mentioned in this statement.
In fact, Sony did not attend the last face-to-face E3 event in 2019 either. So the argument seems realistic, at least from Sony’s point of view. The fact that Nintendo, and especially Microsoft, gave great reinforcements to the past E3s causes us to approach this thesis with skepticism at some point.
