Electric charging capacity doubles in China by 2022

The total charging capacity of lithium-ion batteries produced for electric cars in China increased by 130.2 percent in 2022 compared to the previous year.

According to the information of the China Automotive Battery Innovation Association, a total of 183.8 gigawatt-hours of batteries were produced for rechargeable battery, hybrid and fuel cell electric cars, called “new power vehicle” (NEV), in 2022.

The total charging capacity produced for electric cars during the year increased by 130.2 percent compared to 2021. This accounted for 62.4 percent of the total lithium-ion battery capacity.

According to the data of the China Car Manufacturers Association (CAAM), NEV production in 2022 increased by 96.9 percent, sales increased by 93.4 percent and exports increased by 120.2 percent compared to the same period last year.
