Erdogan announced tax and premium debt regulation

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said: “At the end of our comprehensive evaluations, we have seen that Sunday, May 14, 2023, is the most suitable date for the elections in all respects.

President Erdoğan, who appeared before the cameras after the Presidential Cabinet Meeting, clearly explained the date of my election calendar.

Making statements about debt restructuring and amnesty, Erdoğan drew the framework for the restructuring of public receivables as follows:

– We offer a certain rate of update and installment opportunities for all these debts. Defendant tax and premium documents will also be in this scope.

– We give up the collection of fines of our citizens who owe a debt not exceeding 2 thousand liras to the tax offices before 31 December 2022.

– (Higher education loan) We are making it possible to pay in installments by restructuring the debt outside the index.

– (Regulation for public receivables) We are removing the penalties for the debts of our citizens and companies, especially tax and premium obligations.

– We delete the penalty points of our drivers due to alcohol, drugs, fatal and injury accidents, drifting and violations other than candidate driver situations.

– Penalty points of approximately 2.5 million drivers will be deleted, and for this reason, nearly 10 thousand driver’s licenses will be returned.

Election date clarified

Erdogan said, “If the required majority is not achieved in the parliament, we will take our decision and start the process with a calendar that will ensure that the elections can be held on May 14,” and his statement in summary is as follows:

“Today we reach the month of Rajab, the month of Shaban on February 21 and the month of Ramadan on March 23, the Eid al-Fitr on April 21 and the Feast of Sacrifice on June 28.

As is known, the date of the elections was June 18. We felt the need to update this date as it coincided with the eve of the Eid-al-Adha, the pilgrimage period, and the exam calendar of our children.

As a result of the comprehensive evaluations we made with this understanding, we saw that Sunday, May 14, 2023, is the most appropriate date for the election in all respects.

We want to lead our country to the elections on this date. According to our understanding, we would be pleased if our Assembly makes this date update with a three-fifths majority. Otherwise, as the Presidency, we will take our decision with the calendar to be held on May 14. I hope that the elections we plan to hold on the date of the 2023 elections will be good.”
