Standing before the cameras after the Presidential Cabinet Meeting, President Erdoğan clearly explained the date of my election calendar.
Erdogan’s statement on the matter is as follows:
“Today we reach the month of Rajab, the month of Shaban on February 21 and the month of Ramadan on March 23, the Eid al-Fitr on April 21 and the Feast of Sacrifice on June 28.
As is known, the date of the elections was June 18. We felt the need to update this date as it coincides with both the eve of Eid-al-Adha, the pilgrimage period on the occasion, and the exam calendar of our children.
As a result of the comprehensive evaluations we made with this understanding, we saw that Sunday, May 14, 2023, is the most appropriate date for the election in all respects.
We want to lead our country to the elections on this date. According to our understanding, we would be pleased if our Assembly makes this date update with a three-fifths majority. Otherwise, as the Presidency, we will take our decision with the calendar to be held on May 14. I hope that the elections we plan to hold on the date of the 2023 elections will be good.”
