Record of sales to foreigners in 2022, which was flat in housing

Housing sales decreased by 0.4 percent in 2022 compared to the previous year and amounted to 1 million 485 thousand 622.

Mortgage sales in the whole of 2022 were recorded as 280 thousand 320 units with a decrease of 4.8 percent. In 2022, first-hand sales showed a horizontal picture with 460 thousand 79, second-hand sales with 1 million 25 thousand 543 compared to the previous year.

2022 was a record year in housing sales to foreigners.

Housing sales to foreigners increased by 15.2 percent in 2022 compared to the previous year and reached 67 thousand 490. In 2022, the share of house sales to foreigners in total house sales was 4.5 percent. In 2022, Istanbul took the first place in housing sales to foreigners with the sales of 24 thousand 953 houses. Antalya was followed by Antalya with 21,860 sales, and Mersin with 4,316 sales, respectively.

Russian citizens bought 16,312 houses from Turkey in 2022. Iranian citizens followed Russia with 8 thousand 223 residences and Iraqi citizens with 6 thousand 241 residences.

In 2013, the number of residences sold to foreigners in Turkey was 12,181.

Annual decline streak in December reaches 6th month

According to TUIK information, house sales in December decreased by 8.2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and became 207 thousand 963.

Although this information recorded in December is the highest data of 2022, it fell behind December of the previous year. With December, the annual series of declines in house sales increased to the 6th month.

Mortgaged house sales across Turkey decreased by 51.8% in December compared to the same month of the previous year and became 21,796.

The number of first-hand housing sales in Turkey increased by 1.5 percent in December compared to the same month of the previous year and became 77 thousand 889.

Housing sales to foreigners decreased by 18.6 percent in December 2022 compared to the same month of the previous year and became 6,386. In December, the share of house sales to foreigners in total house sales was 3.1 percent. In December, Antalya took the first place in housing sales to foreigners with the sale of 2,465 houses. Antalya was followed by Istanbul with 1,968 sales, and Mersin with 663 sales, respectively.
