According to the report of Canalys, worldwide smartphone shipments fell 17 percent in the last quarter of 2022. This figure was determined as 11 percent in 2022. Total sales were below 1.2 billion for the overall market in 2022. In addition to all these, despite the production crisis that Apple experienced in the iPhone 14 series, it closed the last quarter at the top.

The technology giant company, especially in the latest iPhone 14 series, reached the top in the last quarter of 2022 with a large share of 25 percent compared to previous years. The company’s biggest rival, Samsung, which is best shown in the field of Android, took the second place with a 20 percent market share. Behind this success of Samsung, especially the success in the foldable smartphone market was effective.

Xiaomi fell in the last quarter of 2022, as it did throughout the year, and remained in third place with a share of 11 percent. The technology company cannot prevent the decline in recent years due to embargoes by the USA. After Xiaomi, OPPO managed to take place in the top five with 10 percent and Vivo with 8 percent, respectively.

LE Xuan Chiew of Canalys quoted the 2022 fourth quarter research report:

“Suppliers are reducing costs to adapt to the new market reality. Building strong partnerships with the channel will be important to maintain their market share, as difficult market conditions for both channel partners and vendors can easily lead to difficult negotiations.”
