“There is no possibility of partial retirement in the EYT regulation”

KPMG Turkey Work and Social Security Services Leader İsmail Sevinç said that the issue of partial retirement within the scope of EYT is a gray area and that there is an expectation in the public regarding this issue, but that there is no possibility of partial retirement in the new regulation.

İsmail Sevinç, Head of KPMG Turkey Work and Social Security Services, drew attention to the fact that there is no possibility of partial retirement in the EYT arrangement.

Stating that it would be beneficial to wait for the law in question and to clarify the debt fully, Sevinç stated that it is a problem for people who do not work in corporate companies and who change a lot during their working life to complete 5 thousand working days.

Sevinç reminded that it is possible to borrow money for the period of birth for women, military service for men or for the transfer of trainee lawyers, and gave the following example:

“Let’s say you are now in 5,000 days, 5,900 days are out and you have nothing to borrow from. In such a case, you will be optionally insured. It can also affect your retirement terms. Or you will continue to work in a workplace.”

There was great expectation in partial retirement

Stating that the issue of partial retirement within the scope of EYT is a gray area, Sevinç said that some insured people expect this definition, but there is no such regulation. Sevinç continued his words by saying:

“Before 1999, you could retire by working for 15 years, 3,600 working days if you were 50 years old for women and 55 years old for men, if you were covered by SSK. It was thought that this status could be redefined. Partially retirees, they receive a salary of 5,500 TL. Later, 3,600 were preserved, but the age was 58 and 60 in SGK, and 56-58 in BAĞKUR. Here, the 50-55 age application has not been passed. The 56-58 age group will continue. Naturally, there was great expectation here as well.”

“This new decision may reduce the number of people who will retire”

Stating that the law was regulated “very simply” and only the age element was removed, Sevinç stated that this new decision may reduce the number of people who will retire.

Sevinç made an assessment of how this new application will affect working life for those who cannot qualify for EYT, “There is a 17-year retirement difference in the middle of two clusters with a one-day difference. This natural labor peace may also become a problem in the medium term. I think that any regulation will be made quickly, but I think that it will not be possible to be indifferent to it. This will come across as a problem.” said.
