Accordingly, tourism income increased by 22.2 percent in the 4th quarter, which consists of October, November and December, compared to the same quarter of the previous year, and reached 11 billion 374 million 206 thousand dollars. 15.3 percent of tourism income was obtained from citizens residing abroad who visited our country.
Of the expenditures made in this quarter, 8 billion 274 million 401 thousand dollars were personal expenditures, and 3 billion 99 million 806 thousand dollars were package type expenditures.
Tourism income increased by 53.4 percent in 2022 compared to the previous year and reached 46 billion 284 million 907 thousand dollars. Personal expenditures constituted 34 billion 477 million 12 thousand dollars of this year’s income, and package medicine expenditures constituted 11 billion 807 million 895 thousand dollars.
2023 aim is 60 million tourists, 56 billion dollars income
Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, who revised last year’s goal upwards and raised 46 billion dollars, announced the 2023 goal as 60 million tourists and the tourism income goal as 56 billion dollars.
Ersoy stated that our 2028 goal is 90 million tourists, our 2028 goal is 100 billion dollars tourism income, and he set a spending goal of 95 dollars per night for 2023.
The number of visitors increased by 32.4 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
The number of visitors departing from the country increased by 32.4 percent in the 4th quarter of 2022 compared to the same quarter of the previous year and reached 11 million 978 thousand 111 people. Citizens residing abroad constituted 13.3 percent of the visitors, with 1 million 588 thousand 624 people.
The number of visitors departing from the country increased by 75 percent in 2022 compared to the previous year and reached 51 million 369 thousand 26 people. 13.7 percent of these were citizens residing abroad with 7 million 27 thousand 504 people.
The average spend per night of departing visitors this quarter was $86. The average nightly expenditure of citizens residing abroad who spent the night was 58 dollars.
Spend $89 per night
When evaluated on an annual basis; The average spending of overnight stays was 89 dollars, and the average nightly spending of citizens residing abroad was 60 dollars.
In this quarter, compared to the same quarter of the previous year, package type expenditures (remaining share to the country) increased by 63.5 percent, domestic international transportation expenditures increased by 49.5 percent and sports, education and culture expenditures increased by 42.4 percent. When evaluated on an annual basis, package type expenditures (the remaining share in the country) increased by 125.2 percent, sports, education and culture expenditures increased by 90.5 percent and international transportation increased by 68.9 percent.
In this quarter, visitors visited our country with the target of “travel, entertainment, sports and cultural activities” with 63 percent.
“Visiting relatives and friends” took the second place with 23 percent, and “shopping” took the third place with 5.6 percent. Citizens residing abroad, on the other hand, came to our country mostly for the purpose of “visiting relatives and friends” with 72.3 percent.
