Yellen meets with Chinese Vice Premier Liu

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and China’s Deputy Prime Minister responsible for foreign trade and international economic links, Liu Hı, agreed to further develop contacts on macroeconomic and financial issues during their meeting in Zurich.

In the statement made by the US Treasury Department, it was reported that Yellen and Liu held a bilateral meeting in Zurich, Switzerland.

It was noted that Yellen and Liu exchanged views on macroeconomic and financial developments, stating that the first face-to-face meeting with Liu since Yellen took office was “candid, concrete and constructive”.

In the statement, it was stated that both sides agreed that it is valuable to further develop the link in macroeconomic and financial issues for the functioning of the global economy.

In the statement, Yellen and Liu agreed on the value of sustainable development, as well as the basis provided for developing countries in the transition to power, as well as bilateral and within the United Nations (UN), G20 and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Organization (APEC) on climate finance. It was emphasized that they would develop multilateral cooperation.

Pointing out that Yellen also brought up her concerns during the meeting, it was stated that she expected to travel to China soon and host her colleagues in the USA.
